I saw the trailer for HELL RIDE ages ago and at the time, I got all excited about it. Then it seemed to disappear until this week, when it resurfaced on DVD and bluray.
The premise seems pretty basic; a badass biker gang, the Victors, are out to avenge the murder of one of their members at the hands of the 666ers, a rival gang who relish living up to their hellish moniker. The leader of the gang, Pistolero, along with his cohorts (the Gent and the mysterious Comanche), aims to take down the Deuce and Billy Wings, the crazed arrow-wielding gang leader.
The reasons I was looking forward to seeing this is the fact the promotional material has ‘Quentin Tarantino presents’ plastered all over it plus it’s in a grindhouse style (and I’m in the minority of people that actually liked DEATH PROOF/PLANET TERROR!). On top of that, it stars Michael Madsen, David Carradine, Vinnie Jones and Dennis Hopper! Dennis Hopper! This is a biker movie with the EASY RIDER himself in it!
I should probably also mention I have a lot of love for B-movies, and this has B-movie written all over it – simple plot, lots of violence and half naked women.
The only thing that makes me slightly apprehensive is that very same ‘Quentin Tarantino presents’ tag that also makes me excited. The man is a genius behind a camera, but he has put his name on some movies I hated in the past – HERO springs immediately to mind.
Still, I’m massively looking forward to watching it and I think I might even do a double-bill with DEATH PROOF.
