[Movie 260 / Day 276]
A comedy take on Tarzan and based on a cartoon, George of the Jungle (Brendan Fraser) was lost as a baby when the plane he was in crashed in the jungle. Raised by apes, he now lives in a tree-house with an ape named ‘Ape’ (John Cleese) and a pet elephant, Shep. That thinks it’s a dog.
Ursula (Leslie Mann) is a young, priveleged lady who is spending some time before her society wedding exploring the jungle when she gets in trouble with a lion. She is rescued by George and is nursed back to health by Ape; before spending an enjoyable couple of days with George in his treehouse. Then her fiancé Lyle turns up to rescue her and shoots George. Lyle is arrested and Ursula flies George back to America to nurse him back to health. Inevitably, they fall in love, etc, etc.
The plot really isn’t important to this movie, it’s more a bunch of slapstick and inane comedy. It’s not a film I enjoy, particularly, but the kids absolutely love it. Probably because there isn’t much plot to follow, there’s no violence to speak of and the narrator talks to them.
Not really worth watching unless you’re babysitting. Which I was.
