I have been watching movies since my father took me, at the tender age of 5, to see Octopussy sometime during the summer of 1983. I can still recall the dark cinema, the smell of the popcorn, and being absolutely spell-bound by the magic of a giant screen and James Bond revealing a little plane hidden under a fake horse’s arse in the opening sequence.
Since then, I’ve loved watching movies of all kinds. I remember befriending the boy at school whose sister worked in the village video store, specifically so I could watch anything I wanted for free instead of having to pay to watch those marked U and PG. Later on, I remember trawling second-hand shops and buying every movie on VHS I could get my hands on, being delighted at finding the occasional gem, like a Special Edition of TRAINSPOTTING complete with cheap and nasty Rizla case, lighter and sunglasses. Bizarrely.
This blog is likely to be a little different from other movie review sites you may read. I review films primarily for my own enjoyment. I enjoy watching movies and I enjoy talking (and arguing!) about them. That’s it. I don’t get paid to do this, it’s a hobby. Yes, I receive the occasional review copy from a friendly PR man, but mainly, I abuse my Cineworld Unlimited card and I’m a regular at Blockbuster (now that they’ve succeeded in killing off all of the independent rental stores around here). So, if I’m a little slow in getting a review live, or I lag behind other sites in announcing the news of the day, that’s because I don’t get to go to the previews that are screened while I’m at work. Either that, or it’s because I have a life. If you hate my opinions about film, fine – feel free to post a comment telling me.
Originally, M365D.com started life as a generic Blogger blog and was simply a way for me to keep a record of what movies I was watching. Then one night, reading through the View Askew bulletin board, I came across a movie watching challenge – namely, one per day for a whole year. So I decided to attempt it and used the blog to track my progress. Halfway through the challenge, I was approached by a friendly PR man who told me he’d be willing to send me review copies if the site was a bit shinier. So I polished it a bit. We’re now onto the third iteration of the site and I’m back to using the blog for fun.
If you want to contact me for any reason (whether that be to offer me cash money to stick your advert on the site, or to wail on me for my opinion of High School Musical), you can email me by laying a click here.
Thanks for reading and remember to use the comments!
Greg.
